Last week I just stared at my sketchbooks, ipad and computer with a blank stare. I'‘m currently having to deal with so many things, I hadn’t realised how much energy this meant. Moving studio, renovating our new home as well as trying to figure out the next steps of my solo entrepreneurship might be just a bit too much ;)
I find making comics about these moments a good way to relieve some stress. But last week I realised I was beyond “comic-cure”. So I did what many do: sulk for a few days. I took a break, accepted it was not happening. But after two days I came back to the sketchbook and made the following exercise:
Draw a blob or do a wet-on-wet with watercolours or ink.
Grab any dry material of preference; pencils, fineliners etc.
Use your blobs to create characters. Have fun! This is a sketchbook!
While the blobs dried out, I went to fysio and against my inner critic and dark cloud above me, I went swimming. Just for 45min. That was the best decision ever! Came back home relaxed and finished the exercise while watching Queer Eye. It was really good. I slept great!
I think a re-boot is truly necessary sometimes. Because even if you write stuff down, sometimes that to-do list can become the enemy instead of the help. And who knows! Maybe new ideas come out from your blob sketches! :)
