Watercolour Rooftop Workshop
Come and learn more about watercolours with personal guidance,
in a creative environment, within a small and cozy group!
7th and 14th of August
10am to 2:30pm
Welcome to the Watercolour rooftop Workshops!
I thought it was time to organise a special face-to-face workshop again, now that we are slowly allowed to do more things in person.
Using the facilities of my current studio building, we'll be painting outdoors at the roof terrace!
I have set up two dates: One for Beginners (7th of August)
and one for Advanced participants (14th of August).
You can join ONE of the workshops for €125
OR
if you want to make it into a 'course' you can buy ALL-in -ONE and jump deep into watercolours this summer
for only €200!
Both workshops include pre-recorded videos so you can start getting prepared and in the mood at home,
while the in-person part will be a 4hrs of workshop with a 30min lunch break - from 10am to 2:30 pm in the afternoon.
Lunch is included as well as light snacks and refreshments, tea & coffee.
High quality materials will also be available during the workshop for you try out!
This is a special course designed for a small group of people, only 6 participants, in order to give you the best experience and for me to share with you my passion for this technique.
We will be using pre-recorded video’s to get you warmed up, and as a BONUS you will get an extra live zoom session a week before we start. During this session you’ll get a sneak peak of materials we'll be using during the workshop as well as tips on how to set up your final project. All this so can be super prepared for the terrace workshop and you can enjoy all our time together painting!
I believe watercolours can be exciting, full of colour and life!
Let me show you how.

Looking to improve your watercolour skills in a
fun, small & personal environment?
Beginners - 7th of August
Do these stories below resonate with you?
You got a watercolour set as a gift, you've tried it once or twice, but now you're ready to learn all the right tips & tricks!
You've seen other artists use watercolours, but you are lost on how to start... the paper, the brushes, the paint, it all feels a little bit overwhelming. You feel like a newbie.
Or maybe you've already been following courses, but you'd like a more personal approach to ask all your questions regarding this lovely but unpredictable technique.
Then this beginners workshop is for you! It is aimed at those who are in their early stages of their watercolour adventure (or haven’t even started yet!) and are eager to learn how to use watercolours in a fun and relaxed environment. We will tackle the basics and then get right into some fun exercises to loose the fear of painting. All this in a small private group of max 6 people.
what does the workshop look like?
To begin with, you will receive access to some pre-recorded videos so you can start at home! This will be a great way to try different exercises and the starting point for when you come to the terrace workshop. I will also introduce your "final project" so you can do some prep work beforehand.
On the 7th of August, the doors of my studio terrace open! We will start with a nice introduction to some special materials I will have ready for you to try out, and we will do some fun exercises guided step by step.
In the afternoon, you will be working on your own project, which you already prepared. I will be helping and guiding you throughout the whole process.
Workshop Includes:
Pre-recorded video's to start exercises at home,
4,5hrs of face-to-face workshop - 10am to 2:30pm
High quality materials to use during the terrace workshop - such as paints, brushes paper and other fun materials.
Direct feedback on your work,
Refreshments, tea & coffee,
A fabulous lunch,
BONUS - Zoom live session on Monday the 2nd of August - 8PM Amsterdam time.
COSTS: €125.-

What do you need to join the workshop?
I would recommend to have materials ready so you can start with the “warming up exercises at home”. This would be: your watercolour set as well as a round brush and watercolour paper. Don’t worry! I will share a brief materials list with you once you subscribe.
I learned a lot of new tips from Aafke and I feel that the course pushed me to stretch my skills. It left me very motivated to keep creating on my own!
Advanced - 14th of August
Are you wondering if you can call yourself "advanced"?
You know the watercolour basics, but you would like to take a step further and improve your skills set.
You'd like to learn more about drawing, composition and setting up your ideas on paper.
You have been making watercolour pieces, but you feel something is missing.
Then this advanced workshop is for you! We will skip the basics and jump right into the depths of watercolour illustration. We will look at sketching your ideas and placing them on paper; finding the right composition as well as colour choices. You will build up your illustration through layers and we will look at 2 styles of painting.
All this in a private group of 6 people.

We then have a break and will enjoy a lovely lunch together.
In the afternoon, you will be working on your own project, which you already started previously. We will take a look at composition and thumbnails before working on a bigger piece of paper. I will be helping and advising you along the way.

A little more about me
I’ve been a freelance illustrator for over 7 years, working for various types of companies bringing their concepts and ideas to life. In a nutshell, visual storytelling is what I do.
Since 3 years I’ve been giving creative workshops, first as part of a local workshop space “Paper Brush Studio” and since a year ago back to ‘solo’. I love to encourage others to be creative and fall in love with their own work.
When I create a new workshop or course, I always try to think about what would have made me happy, or pushed me further, when I was starting out. And this keeps me motivated to give participants, you, all of my energy.
My illustration work is known for being colourful, personal, fun, and conveying emotions. These characteristics are the ones I will bring to the table during this course, and I hope that by opening the door to my ‘world’ it can inspire you to develop yours!
Other things about me: I’m a sketchbook fanatic, I love nature and animals. My dog Tjido and I have amazing adventures with the bakfiets and good food makes the world a better place.
I really loved the course, it was fun and you made it easier for me to work with watercolours. Aafke gives very good instructions how to improve. It's a diverse course with a lot of possibilities to ask questions. Thank you so much!
