Welcome to this 3rd edition of this course!
As you know, our work is constantly developing and being influenced by what we see, although most of the time we are not aware of this. We choose our favourite artists or illustrators due to their style, but often we feel our work lacks that special spark.
And maybe, you have reached a point where you ask yourself:
What about my style? Do I have any?
How do I know where my work fits in?
Since your style is unique to your person, this course is not about teaching you a style, but to guide you into the process of discovering and developing your own.

How is the course set up?
I have broken down the course into 4 modules that are spread out into 7 weeks.
Yes! 7 weeks in which we are going to clear the path into some self-discovery. And I will be there every step of the way.
For this 3rd edition I am offering two versions of this course, so you can choose the one that fits your needs:
Fire up version
(Live & Online combined)
In this “Fire Up” Version I invite you to start the course in person with a kick-off session on Saturday 25th of Sept, and meet again for our final date on Saturday 6th of Nov in my studio in Amsterdam! Not only do you get to face-to-face time with all the participants, but you also get extra one-on-one time with me.
The in between calls (2 calls) will be online, via zoom on Thursday evenings. There are 2 weeks time in between each call for you to work on the assignments. And you get 3 weeks to work on your final project.
As a Bonus there are also Drawing Sessions & the Creative Business Webinar included!
The Fire Up Version is in Dutch

Full Online Version
(The classic)
The Full Online Version follows that same set-up as the last 2 editions of the FYS course: we have all our calls via zoom, on Wednesday evenings, starting the 23rd of September and we have our last call on the 3rd of November.
You get 4 calls, via zoom with feedback.
There are 2 weeks time in between each call for you to work on the assignments. And you get 3 weeks to work on your final project.

Course Overview
A PERSONALISED approach
Having personal contact with students is a key aspect to all of my workshops & creative events. This is why, even though this course is (partially) online, I have set up the course in such a way that you can have personal feedback and ask all the questions you have.
In order to make this possible, this course is set up in a group format of max 6 people and a min of 4. (I will be working with 2 groups to allow up to 12 people to join the course.)
Each week you will have:
Access to the weekly module with assignments and downloadable PDF’s
You then have between one to two weeks time (depending on the module) to work on the assignment.
Send in your work to receive feedback.
Attend the live session with your peers, where we will talk about your findings of the week and there will be time for Q&A! The sessions will be recorded
Why a group format?
As visual creatives we tend to work on our own. We tap into our own imagination and create a world on paper. But sometimes having a different view on your work can help you reach new ideas. Many of you might want to work for clients (or already do) - so it’s a good practice to share your work and look at it from another perspective.
The Groups in this course are intended for the Live Sessions, where you will get to know other participants, and you’ll be able to share your work, your difficulties, as well as wins. I think it is exciting to travel a journey with others, learning from different approaches, and who knows, maybe finding like minded people or even new friendships!
The Modules
Here is an overview of the modules:
Module 1: Where am I now?
During this week we will look at our current work as well as our influences.
Module 2: Unique You
In week 2 we dive deeper. It’s now all about you and your voice. Here we will clarify what drives you and how to use this.
Module 3: Sharpen your Tools
It’s time to get back to the drawing table! We look at your hero’s in detail and start to make choices on the type of work you want to be making.
Module 4: Your Statement Piece
Almost three weeks to work on your statement piece(s). During this time I will be cheering you on from the sidelines! BONUS: During these weeks you can join drawing sessions, as well as the Creative Business Webinar call!
Module 5: Looking back at our journey and next steps
A moment to look back on your journey, what you have achieved and how to go from here?
What can I expect?

This course is for for those who:

Aimed at illustrators but other visual creative fields are welcome.
IMPORANT: you do not have to be a ‘professional’ to join this course! As long as you tick all of the boxes above, you are welcome.
how much time do I need to invest?
This course stands out from other creative online courses because it really is all about you.
You will be the one to decide how much time to spend during every assignment. But if you are looking for an easy quick course, then this might not be the right fit for you. The best results are for those who are serious about their creative development.
That said, if I would have to give you a general overview of the time you need to set aside; I would say, at least 1.5 hour for your assignments plus 1,5 to 2hrs hours for the live zoom session. So 4hrs total per week.
So by the end of the course you would have spent more than 20hrs in yourself and your work!
Find Your Style Course was a long journey, featuring a lot of hard work, but also loads of fun, a lot of pushing myself out of my comfort zone, but also re-discovering confidence in my art. It was a great experience, and also a great opportunity to meet really amazing artsy people. Definitely a life changer, I feel like I want to do this course again!

A little more about me
So yes, my name is Aafke, but my whole website is in English. The answer that dilemma is: I was born and raised in Mexico City, and moved to The Netherlands to study. So Dutch is officially my third language (this does mean that if you want your feedback in Dutch - dat is geen probleem!)
My love for teaching started around 4 years ago when I started with small groups and then founded a local workshop space “Paper Brush Studio”. Since two years ago, I went back to working ‘solo’. I love to spark others creativity and encourage them to fall in love with their own work.
On a more personal note, I love to chat and cook. In the mornings I drink a tea and then have coffee. My dog Tjido and I go around the city in a blue cargo bike, and I cannot stand white walls without decorations.
